Q&T and Crane Currency Cooperate on MOTION SURFACE® Integration for PolySecure®
The cooperation combines Q&T’s PolySecure® polymer substrate with Crane Currency’s MOTION SURFACE® micro-optic security technology.
In 2023, Q&T Hi-Tech Polymer and Crane Currency established a cooperation programme focused on integrating advanced optical security technology with Q&T’s PolySecure® polymer banknote substrate.
The cooperation brought together Q&T’s multilayer polymer substrate platform and Crane Currency’s MOTION SURFACE® micro-optic security technology.
The companies publicly presented the cooperation during a meeting at Q&T’s manufacturing facility in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi.
Combining Substrate and Optical Security
PolySecure® provides the polymer substrate platform, while MOTION SURFACE® adds a dynamic micro-optic security feature designed for visual authentication.
The cooperation focused on bringing these technologies together within a banknote substrate configuration suitable for subsequent security-printing processes.
Rather than developing the optical technology independently, Q&T worked with Crane Currency as a specialist security-technology partner to evaluate its application on PolySecure®.

MOTION SURFACE® on PolySecure®
Technical work carried out by the two companies included the application of MOTION SURFACE® onto Q&T’s polymer substrate.
Crane Currency representatives reported that the feature had been successfully applied to the substrate and that the integration was being evaluated through physical and chemical testing.
This work provided a technical basis for assessing how a specialist micro-optic feature could be combined with the PolySecure® platform.
Technical Evaluation and Qualification
Integration work extended beyond visual appearance.
The evaluation considered the interaction between the optical feature and the polymer substrate through a programme of physical and chemical testing.
This type of qualification is important because an optical security feature must remain compatible not only with the substrate itself, but also with the subsequent processes used to produce the finished banknote.

A Complementary Technology Partnership
The programme reflects Q&T’s approach of combining its own polymer substrate engineering with specialist security technologies developed by international partners.
PolySecure® provides the substrate architecture, while Crane Currency contributes its expertise in micro-optic security.
The cooperation therefore expands the range of security technologies that can be evaluated for integration with Q&T’s polymer substrate platform.
Continuing Optical-Security Development
The Crane Currency programme became one of Q&T’s early international technology collaborations in optical security.
Subsequent industry reporting has continued to identify MOTION SURFACE® as one of the optical-security technologies applied to the PolySecure® platform.
Alongside later development of embedded optical-security architectures, the cooperation demonstrates Q&T’s broader approach to supporting both surface-applied and substrate-integrated security technologies.
